How would you like to relax in a field of lavender without leaving your home? Or clear a stuffy nose with a Eucalyptus steam shower?  It is amazing what a huge impact a tiny bottle of essential oil can have on the quality of our lives. Perhaps it is because within this concentrated plant oil we have all of the medicinal and cosmetic qualities of hundreds of pounds of plant material. Imagine the 4,000 lbs of Bulgarian roses it takes to make one pound of rose essential oil! So when you put a few drops of lavender oil into a diffuser in your bedroom, you really are experiencing a field of lavender in the comfort of your home.

Incredibly versatile, essential oils are used in aromatherapy but can also be used for their antiviral, anti-fungal and antimicrobial properties, on spider bites, cold sores, or in homemade cleaning products. Here are some great ones to start with.

Lavender essential oil is a “must have”. It helps us relax, de-stress and balance emotions. Put a few drops on a cotton ball and leave it in your linen closet to have lavender scented sheets. It is also great for its antiseptic properties and it is very safe for animals and babies. I put a drop on my daughters spider bites to help them heal and keep them from getting infected.

A few drops of Jasmine or Rose essential oil can make a hot bath into a spa experience! Dim the lights, put on some relaxing music and enjoy alone to feel like a Goddess or with your partner for a romantic bath.

Studies have shown Rosemary essential oil helps with memory recall and performance on tests. Citrus Essential oils such as Lime or Grapefruit help us feel more energized and alert. These are good ones to keep on your desk when you need a boost while working.

Open your senses to wellness with essential oils and tell us about your experience! Here are some fun recipes to play with. Remember, there are so many more ways you can use essential oils to make massage oils, perfumes, bath salts, homemade cleaning products, room misters and so much more! We would love to hear from you. Eucalyptus Steam Shower – Eucalyptus Essential Oil helps break down mucus, it kills bacteria and is antimicrobial and antiseptic. Use it when you feel a cold coming on or to relieve a stuffy nose & sinuses.

Add 10 drops to a hot shower and inhale deeply. Add more essential oil to your liking.

Awake & Alert Mist  – This blends oils that have antidepressant properties, are energizing and help the mind stay alert. Mist this around you when you need a pick me up and keep it on your desk at work.

20 drops Rosemary

8 drops grapefruit

4 drops peppermint

4 oz clean spray bottle with a fine mist setting

1 oz vodka or other high proof alcohol (optional)

distilled water

Directions: Fill the spray bottle with vodka, water, and add essential oils. Do not fill up all the way so you can easily shake and spray.

Tea Tree Cold Sore Remedy

I have given this to people with cold sores who had never used Essential Oils before and they had the best results, within 1 -2 days!

Apply Tea Tree Essential Oil directly on a cold sore several times a day until it is gone.

Aphrodisiac Massage Oil or Perfume

Essential Oils should be mixed with a carrier oil (such as sweet almond oil or jojoba oil) before they are applied on the skin. This blend is romantic and sensual — great for a massage or in lieu of a perfume.

1 oz carrier oil (massage); or 1 tbs. carrier oil (for perfume)

10 drops Sandalwood

5 drops Jasmine
