What do you do to unwind after a long day at work? Here is a healthy and delicious way to treat yourself to some deep relaxation for little or no cost: turn your home into a spa! Make any evening into a deeply relaxing and nurturing experience with this simply guide.
Set the mood – We don’t check Facebook at a spa, or create grocery lists in our head. Part of the fabulous rejuvenation we experience is because we are doing only one thing: relaxing. Being fully present is deeply healing. So turn of your phone, TV, computer. If you have a family, let them know ahead of time not to disturb you. Turn on some relaxing music or nature sounds of a waterfall or the ocean. Dim the lights. Light some candles. Get your softest towel ready and any lotions or oils you will be using. Turn your bathroom into a beautiful sanctuary.
Set your intention – Take a moment to check in with yourself and set your intention. You may be wanting to clear your mind, love yourself up, or simply relax deeply and tuck yourself into bed.
Run a bath – Laying in hot water relaxes our body and mind.. Pick up some Epson Salts at your local pharmacy to help detox, soothe sore muscles, and replenish essential minerals. Get creative! Add flower petals, herbs, essential oils or bubbles so your bath is a feast for all your senses.
Massage yourself – Sure, having a professional massage you is great, but doing it yourself is surprisingly pleasureful! You know best what kind of pressure you like, where the problem areas are, and what spot makes you “Ahhh”. Pour some oil into the palm of your hands (coconut, almond, grape seed, sunflower — even olive oil if that is what you have), add some essential oils and rub your hands together to warm the oil. Cover your entire body to hydrate your skin and focus on the parts that feel good and are easy to massage yourself, like your calves, ankles, feet and hands.
Night Night – Finish the experience in your bedroom. Imagine you are tucking the little you into bed. Do it with the upmost love and devotion. Lay with your eyes closed and listen to calm music or the sound of your breath. Think about what you are grateful for. And sleep like a baby, worry free and so loved.
