Flu Season Series: Prevention with Garlic

Add garlic to your daily diet and you will boost your immunity and protect yourself from the flu! It’s legendary antibiotic and antiviral properties have made it an ally for centuries! In fact, it dates back 5,000 years to the ancient Egyptians, making it one of the oldest cultivated plants. Today, science is proving that it does indeed protect and ward off viruses, bacteria and even infections from other microbes including yeast, fungi and worms. It also has other amazing medicinal properties that will convince us all to crush a clove and day to keep the doctor away!

 How to Use Garlic During the Flu Season:

1. Try to consume between 1 and 2 whole cloves of garlic each day and your chance of catching a cold goes down by over 50%. The best way it so eat it fresh. Add it to your food at the very end, but if it is too intense, add a couple of minutes before your food is finished cooking. If you cook it for over 15 minutes, you greatly reduce its medicinal qualities.

2. You can also take garlic supplements, drink garlic tea, or eat a spoon full of crushed up garlic mixed with raw honey.

3. Use garlic as soon as the initial symptoms of a cold are felt, or better yet, add it as a daily staple.  Make a garlic tea to boost immunity and soothe a sore throat and cough. Simply crush some garlic, let it sit for a few minutes, and then mix with hot water from the kettle and steep. You an add raw honey to improve the taste and enhance the medicinal qualities.

4. Recent research shows that not only can garlic help prevent many colds but taking daily garlic supplements can also help reduce the duration ad severity of colds when they are contracted.
