I had an ultrasound once and the doctor talked to me about it afterwards. She said they had found two fibroids. They didn’t know why they were there. She said they could be genetic. Said they were nothing to worry about but I had to be DILIGENT about getting my annual pap smear and ultrasound so that they could watch them.

Watch them for what? I asked. She said they would have to make sure that they didn’t get any growths on them or start acting funny. (I totally heard cancer during this part of the conversation). She said if they were starting to show problems they would remove them through surgery.

Why should I wait around for cancer I thought? So I went to my acupuncturist. She said she would give me herbs for a couple of months that would soften the fibroids and help them expel on their own. That sounded much better of a plan to me. I coupled the herbs and acupuncture with 30 days of vaginal steaming and I don’t know where they went–but those fibroids are gone.

How empowering is that?! Our uterus can be cleaned out. In fact, it cleans out once a month. That’s the specific function of menstruation. And there are things that women can do to help the cleanse along. This is something every woman needs to master to be in charge of her own health and PREVENT fibroids, tumors, infections and cancers.

During menstruation, a woman wants to ensure that her uterus is totally cleansing the built up endometrial lining and the unfertilized egg. It normally takes 4 days for this to occur. Normal menses should be medium flow and red.

Traditionally, a menstruating woman stays indoors, especially at night, which helps keep the body warm and allows the uterus to cleanse.

Resting and avoiding normal household or work duties is also helpful to allow the body time to relax and release. (Yes please!!)
