Who doesn’t like to take something old and make it new again? I love refurbishing old furniture I have sitting around and giving it a new life! This is a very simple bookshelf makeover that will be sure to brighten up any room!
For this project you are going to need the following supplies:
Ok, let’s get started!
Remove the backboard from the bookshelf by wrapping your hammer in your cloth and gently tapping from the inside of the bookshelf until all the nails are loose enough to where you can remove the backboard.
Gently tap nails out of the backboard and set aside, you can re-use these to re-attach the backboard.
Start painting the bookshelf. Make sure to paint from the inside out. Using a roller will help to distribute the paint evenly and to cut down on time, but be sure to take your brush to do the corners. Allow the bookshelf to sit for 45 minutes and then apply a second coat of paint.
Now you are ready to wallpaper! You are going to want to measure the wallpaper to fit the backboard.
Apply the wallpaper to one side of your wallpaper and fold over (this is called book ending) and repeat for the other side.
Unfold one side of wallpaper and apply to the backboard and smooth out any wrinkles with a damp rag. Line up your pattern and apply the other side of wallpaper and smooth out any wrinkles if necessary.
Lay bookshelf down on its belly and attach backboard by using the nails you set aside earlier.
Return bookshelf to its upright position and admire the work you just did!
With a little time and effort, you can transform any old piece of furniture into an amazing new piece without breaking the bank!
